The MAHARANA PRATAP NATIONAL

situated at a distance of about 20 Kms. from Ambala on the Ambala – Yamunanagar

renowned freedom fighter, ‘Thakur Ratan Singh’ and his fellows. In a very serene atmosphere of a
“Shantiniketan, the college is very rapidly emerging as one of the best leading
rural colleges in Haryana. Thakur Ratan
Singh, the founder President of the college with his deep insight wanted every
section of the society to be educated and he made endless endeavors in this
behalf so that the students could develop mentally, physically and spiritually.
For this noble cause, the
people of Mullana donated 85 acres of land.
The college in the true memory of its founder President, has been making
a rapid progress since then. No elections
to the student Body are held; Students are nominated to the Body. There has been no agitation or strike in the
college ever. The college is permanently
affiliated to the UGC under the scheme 2 (F) since March, 1990.
The college has had strength
of about 1250 in the past, but after the plus one and two classes were shifted
to the Schools, the strength of the Students had fallen to 650, which includes
150 girls. It has two faculties – Arts
& Commerce up to degree level and Post Graduate in History & Sanskrit. The college started initially with a strength
of merely 26 students. The students come
from far-flung rural areas.
The college has fairly a
good Library with Moden Text Books, Journals and Encyclopedias; it is fully
computerized. The college library
provides free books to the economically weaker students. With the help, in terms of funds, from the
UGC the College has set up a Computer Centre which provides Computer Knowledge
not only to the students but also to the Ex-students of the college. The college has various Audio Visual Aids
like colored TV, VCP, Education Oriented Video Cassettes, Refrigerator, and
Sound Systems etc. Besides the above, a
functional English lab has recently been added for the benefit of the students.

imparted Military Education. For this
purpose, there are two units of NCC comprising

August and 26th January are celebrated with great fervor in the

DEFICIENCIES:-
1) The Maharana Pratap National College, a Post Graduate College, has been making rapid progress in all the fields, but the College is facing a number of problems for lack of sufficient finances, which has greatly hampered the development process of the college. The College does not have sufficient rooms owing to the increase in the number of students every year. Since the College has recently started a P.G. Class in History and Sanskrit, there is an urgent need for a separate Commerce Block.
2) The college has strength of 150 girl students. More girls from the rural areas will come forward for higher education if we are able to provide them security by way of college transport. The conveyance in the form of a college Bus can also help them save a lot of time.
3) The college has no supply of fresh drinking potable water for the students. The College needs a deep submersible tube well in the campus which ensure fresh supply of drinking water to the students. What presently exists is a shallow tube well at sub-soil level with saline water, which is rendered unfit for human consumption.
4)
Due to lack of proper building space the
College perforce has to organize various functions in the open for which a
large amount of money is spent. The
College needs an Auditorium for this purpose.
